We Are Divine Beings in Human Bodies

This morning while I was exercising, it suddenly occurred to me that I was sweating and pushing myself to work harder in the interest of making my body “acceptable.”  To whom? I asked myself when I had learned that my body was not acceptable, and what sort of impact that lesson had had on me.  I realized that I had been in a trance of “not good enough” regarding my body for the majority of my life.  And I laughed!

It became crystal clear to me in that moment that my body is a vehicle, designed to house my Divine spirit while I am here on Earth.  It is that which allows me to experience the world through my senses, to feel pleasure and pain, to move from here to there.  But it is not “me!”  It is, to be certain, a gift and a miraculous machine that serves me beautifully.  But it is my Spirit that is truly important!  The body will be left behind one day, and I will wonder what all the fuss was about–why I spent so much time worrying about being the right size when none of that matters in the long run.  Right then and there, I did a little dance for joy!

This little flash of wisdom helped me to see my life from a larger perspective, to be gentle and playful with myself instead of critical and harsh.  I share it with you so that you might see your body in a different light.  Rather than succumbing to standards of physical appearance, remember that you are Divinity itself!  That is who you are!  Your body is just the chauffeur for your Earthly journey.
